PROJECT
form at the end of the world — limited edition portfolio
This limited-edition portfolio offers collectors a stirring record of the fragile and ever-evolving Antarctic landscape. Following in the tradition of the 19th century’s pioneering expedition photographers Herbert Ponting (1870-1935) and Frank Hurley (1885-1962), Tihany’s account is rendered in sumptuous monochrome values, a palette that has long served to accentuate and flatter the otherworldly silhouette of the South Pole.
“I feel the cinematic quality of a location undergoing steady, minute-to-minute transformation requires a sequence to convey, if only fractionally, that encompassing condition of transience. The “personality” of Antarctica, the space, is amazingly dynamic and even blunt, in many respects ... with this collection of pictures that physicality and immense morphic energy begins to come into view, but not at the exclusion of an intimate, quiet moment with the subject—albeit, as quiet as having Atlas sit for a portrait!” (Tihany)
